Hey there,

"Poly v. swinging" is one of *those* debates that will probably never be ultimately be settled. That said, the link below provides about as conside a summary as you're likely to find -- especially the fourth paragraph: http://www.laps.org/whatpoly.html

I suggest that you Google "polyamory swinging" (without the quotes) for a *lot* more info.

Best regards,

Two entirely different things. Polyamory has the root word for "love." This involves developing relationships over a long period of time, sometimes for life. Sex may even be incidental. Swinging is casual sex, maybe with people whose names you don't even know. Some swingers I've talked to say that NOT putting in the time and effort to develop a relationship is the whole point for them. Many swingers already have a primary relationship and don't want to include others.

That's my POV. I'm sure others will have better answers.

Wow, this is the second poly site I found here within minutes... anyway I asked a question on the other poly site that I'm just curious about and I'll go ahead and re-post here. sorry about the cross-posting:

I got a little lost and ended up in this tribe (easily disoriented--up all night). So then I got to thinking, "what's the difference between poly and swinging?" Does swinging just refer to older terminology for the same thing? So is it perhaps the progenitor to poly; or are they two separate things entirely? Poly seems a bit more politicized but is there more to it?
